Though endorsed by the City Council, a plan to create a privately funded performing arts venue in downtown Menlo Park needs to be approved quickly or the nonprofit behind it may pull out. Drew Dunlevie, a city resident and one of three co-founders of the new Peninsula Arts Guild, envisions a rebuilt Guild Theatre at 949 El Camino Real that could serve as a downtown hub, featuring a multitude of entertainment options such as concerts, comedians, speaker series and film festivals. The nonprofit has said it will entirely fund the project with private money and even reimburse the city for staff time spent on it.
