Week 5 of Season 27 was “Disney Night,” and it seemed as if everyone — from celebs and pros, to cast and crew — wrapped themselves in colorful costumes, danced to fun and familiar music, and were surrounded by all of the Disney characters. The fun and frantic show opening with the pros and the mini-pros of DWTS Jr. put the audience in the ballroom, and at home, in a happy mood. In addition, everyone in the audience wore glowing Mickey Mouse ears. At the end of the program, it looked like host Tom Bergeron and co-host Erin Andrews would throw a wet blanket over the two hours of high spirits by eliminating either Alexis Ren and Alan Bersten (shout of “What?” from the audience) or DeMarcus Ware and Lindsay Arnold (sounds of “no”). But Tom then said, “It’s neither of you — it’s Disney Night! No one goes home. You’re all safe!” Hooray.

The Chamber Chorus isn’t as well known as the dinosaur bones and the Twain papers — at least, not outside the music world. But inside that world it’s very highly regarded indeed. Critics keep falling over each other reaching for new ways to praise them. The San Francisco Classical Voice calls them “flawless.” The New York Times calls them “first-rate.” The San Jose Mercury News says they are “arguably the area’s pre-eminent collegiate ensemble.” And the San Francisco Examiner says they “left no syllable unarticulated and no musical marvel unexplored.” The Chamber Chorus has regularly collaborated with renowned local and international artists such as the Abel-Steinberg-Winant Trio, Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra, Mark Morris Dance Company, and Finnish conductor Esa-Pekka Salonen.

“There’s a saying in Cuban, guapea, that means ‘to feel good,’ ” she said. “My goal is to make women feel good.”. On Wednesday mornings, San Jose resident Andrea Brady teaches a parent-child dance class and a preschool ballet class back-to-back at the Los Gatos Youth Recreation Center. She said her favorite part about working with youngsters, besides the cuteness factor, is seeing them progress so quickly. “It’s amazing in six short weeks to see what they have learned,” she said.
